Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
