Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims First Trophy in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with former trainer his previous coach.
Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks his maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since March of that year.
Victory also indicates the Russian has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different events.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He defended four early chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, he earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
